When Do You Surf in Morocco? The Season, Month by Month
The surf season in Morocco runs from October to April, when the North Atlantic sends its swell. The milder summer suits beginners. Here are the details.
The autumn swell rolling into the bay of Mirleft under a low skyIn short: the best time to surf in Morocco is between October and April — that is when the North Atlantic lows send long, regular waves. The summer remains surfable, with smaller waves, perfect for getting started.
When Are the Best Waves?
From November to February is the heart of the Atlantic winter: the strongest swells, the points wake up, the water at 16 to 17 degrees. The season of the advanced.
And for Beginners?
From April to October the sea calms down: smaller, more widely spaced waves, water at 18 to 19 degrees — the ideal window for a first week. And even in the depths of winter we exclude no one: around Mirleft there are more sheltered spots where beginners find their place while the advanced go looking for the big swell. You can learn to surf here all year round.
What Awaits You Month by Month?
- October–November — the water still mild, the first autumn swells, sheltered spots for a gentle start.
- December–February — winter and the biggest waves for the advanced; but also more sheltered bays at Mirleft for beginners (cooler water, 3/2 mm wetsuit recommended).
- March–April — the swell eases, the days grow longer, the light is magnificent.
- May–September — the summer: small waves, a warm sea, ideal for beginners and families.
